Welcome to Where We Ask You to Question Before You Believe

Is Atheism A Religion?

Occasionally, friends and acquaintances suggest atheism is simply my new religion.   They argue my disbelief has many of the same characteristics as my previous religious life – evangelical passion, adherence to certain principles or beliefs, a tendency toward superiority and a diminishment of those who are less enlightened.  Since there is some truth to their accusation, I’ve tried not to reject it out of hand.  Whether atheism is a religion or not, the way people approach it can often look religious, especially in the lives of those of us raised in religion.  Old habits die hard.

Angry Atheist

Angry Atheist

by
CW Brown

This goes out to CHRISTIANS who visit and PROSELYTIZE our Facebook page, that say I am an ANGRY ATHEIST.  Before you go back and preach to your friends and saying I am an angry atheist. Think about it for a second:

Many an atheist, like myself, are not angry at God, for how could we possibly be angry at something that does not exist? However, we are angry at people like yourself for constantly shoving something down our throats that is without proper foundations, without the proper evidence.

Demons Everywhere

Demons Everywhere

If demons existed, then so what?! Have you ever seen a demon? Has a demon ever ruined your day? If you haven’t seen one nor had any interaction with one andit hasn’t hurt you in anyway, then why does its existence even matter?

Atheists Are Not Hateful, We Want To Know

by
CW Brown

I get told often enough by Christians that we are being hateful.  This is disturbing and not unique to our page.  This, of course, is a gross misrepresentation of what we are doing here and what our ultimate goal is to accomplish.  I mean, sure, we make fun of religion at times, but this is so we don’t cry from the atrocities that are being committed because of it.  Many of us have had horrible things happen to us directly because of religion, so we must laugh sometimes to avoid losing our minds at its apparent and present dangers.  This brings me back to why we do what we do.

Good And Evil

by
CW Brown

I was reading an article today (link below) about the truth on opposites. See, most concepts that we believe about opposites are simply not true. They are a relative perspective on reality that many just believe without question, they take it for granted. For example, I have felt this way about good and evil for quite some time. Most people, especially the religious, just accept good and evil as a basic building block of their belief system. It shapes their reality.

Sociopath Christians

Sociopath Christians

by

It is always fun when you have Christians visit your page and tell you how much they and their God love you, but tell you how terribly wrong you are at the same time.  It really takes some major lack of humility and other sociopathic behaviors to be able to have these people not look at you like another human, but instead a lost, evil soul, less than them.  That is where it all breaks down.  We try and relate and tell them many of us have been where they are, but, no, their relationship is special.  It is not unlike kids telling their parents they don’t understand, things have changed, mom, dad, what I have with Jesus is special, I love him and you should too!  You just don’t understand!  You don’t know him like I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Islam Ruled Science and Lost Their Golden Age

by
James Kirk Wall

When a city is invaded, the men butchered, the women raped, the libraries burned, centuries of human progress are lost within hours. This is the devastation of war.

Societies that have been tolerant and open to new ideas through people of different lands and cultures have prospered in intellect and reasoning. But self-preservation has often dictated that the philosophers be forsaken for soldiers, the arsenals that would strengthen the mind be traded for the arsenals that would pierce the body. Many a society that was reasonable has been conquered by a society that was not.

I Don’t Believe That Either

By
Jim Mulholland

In the months since I publicly announced my departure from Christianity, I’ve had many conversations with the same general pattern.  A family member or friend would ask me why I felt the need to leave.   I would reply that religion no longer made me happy.  Though this reply ended the conversation with many, close friends would often persist.  They wanted to know what about Christianity made me unhappy.

Ingersoll Rips Bible Old Testament

by
James Kirk Wall

In the battle of reason over superstition, no one was better armed or fierce than Robert G Ingersoll. This Civil War veteran has been dead for over 100 years, but with the internet, he’s resurrected to assist the living realm of liberty loving free thinkers.

Below is from his work “About the Holy Bible” where Ingersoll exposes Biblical horrors and absurdities that you weren’t taught through Veggie Tales, Biblical movies or television series. Many still view the Bible from a child’s eyes through a children’s edition. But the real Bible vs. the watered down and desensitized versions is something else entirely.

Dear Glenn Beck, Human Rights Have Never Come From God

by
James Kirk Wall

Whenever you hear someone claim that rights come from god, that speaker is a person who (intentionally or unintentionally) wants to take your rights away. That is someone who wants a theocracy. It’s not about using god to claim that you have rights (even though that in itself is absolute nonsense), it’s about others claiming that their rights come from their god to take your rights away.
